Hello all,
It has been said that one should acquire the "correct" horse to do the task at hand.It is currently fashionable, for instance,to ride Warmbloods in competition dressage. It was not, however, always this way.My Quarter Horse is bred to cut cows, and she is very good at it, but she has also won prizes in Western Reining. That she is talented in these aspects should not preclude an interest in academic riding (dressage),which after all was simply formulated to improve a horse's 'way of going',and not to win prizes.Perhaps we should have, for those who wish, dressage competition for other breeds of horse. We have what we have,in our horses,of whatever breed ,and I,for one,am very grateful for that, for even horses with less than perfect conformation and talent have a great deal to teach us all.
Happy Christmas,
Sandy.

Hi Sandy,

I suppose it depends whether you think that dressage is about getting the best score, or whether it is about getting the best out of a horse, any horse.

If it's the former, then you can simply buy and sell your way up the ladder, each time spending a little more.

If it is the latter, then you should set yourself for some rather major disappointments because very few judges are capable of spotting it. (and I have to say that it is difficult)

I saw a quarter horse that was being schooled in classical dressage the other day (in the States, would you believe) He was just like any other well schooled horse (and the naturally "difficult" points of a quarter horse had been improved) - now that is dressage!

Dear Andy, Sandy,

Yes, indeed... what is dressage??? Andy, your remark about the States is just focusing my mind on the huge discrepancy between the skills existing in the US and the demand of people, riders ... If both of you know teachers, clinicians working in AI's mind... Please contact me... or if you're ready to do it personally... I could prepare some theory about Rollkur... a speech or so..

My very best regards and happy new year.
