On the buckle.

Hello all,
I believe we would obtain a better response from our horses if,between asking for difficult movements and changes of balance,we were to talk to them and let them,as a reward, walk around on the buckle in impulsion, before starting again.
Safe riding,
Sandy
i agree sandy. it is very important to "wash" the brain of the horse from all the concentration we asked from him. i even prefer to stop by a spot where there is things happening (by the stalls, the pastures) and let my horse look at what is going on, sniff the ground or scratch himself.
there is not only the effort of the muscles in the movements we ask, but there is also the effort of the brain that has to stay focus, trying to understand the rider aids.
valérie, it is indeed a great book ! you should start a topic ; a new topic would make your comment more visible instead of having it hidden in another topic...
and i'm sure dr. heuschmann won't be against lots of walk on the buckle !
Hello, I am new to the assocation and missed what "on the buckle" was about so I'm just going to tell you about a book that should be obligatory reading for anyone involved with horses. It's called:
"Tug of War: Classical versus "modern" dressage - Why classical training works and how incorrect "modern" riding negatively affects horses' health" written by
Dr. Gerd Heuschmann ISBN 978-1-57076-375-5
This book has a stamp on it saying "Written for the Good of the Horse" and it's about time too. This is a must for the library of any rider, trainer, judge and those that regulate at national and international levels. All I can say is a great thank you to the author on behalf of the horses in our lives.
Bonne soirée, Valerie
