A friend of mine showed this video of my horse Lingh (http://www.linghvideos.com/POPUp-Lingh-Music&Magic.html) to her son, who has special needs, and was amazed at his reaction. Typically somewhat non-responsive, her son became very animated and enthusiastic at seeing “the dancing horse”.

It reminded me of all the wonderful work that’s being done with equine therapy to help individuals with developmental disabilities. Equine therapy is gaining ground every day as an accepted form of treatment that helps improve coordination, language and communication, self esteem, and so much more. In fact, for the first time, Dr. Tricia Wilmoth is presenting Equine Therapy as part of a therapeutic solution for the treatment of autism at the Autism Society’s 41st National Conference in July 2010. To support this work, I’m posting the link to the site for the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association http://www.narha.org/

Check out their Facebook Page, too: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/NARHA/116347621712730?ref=search&sid=1541809074.2740888072..1

Do you have similar organizations in Europe? Let me know!
