Dear mr B. Maurel,

Danish dressage sensation Blue Hors Matine has been put down today after breaking her leg in the field.

The 13-year-old mare rocketed to fame at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen, winning grand prix freestyle silver with Andreas Helgstrand. The mare, by Blue Hors Silver Moon, also took bronze at WEG in the grand prix special. But she retired to stud last August following a long-term tendon injury sustained at the Las Vegas World Cup in 2007.

Matine was in the field with her "buddy" Blue Hors Cavan when a member of staff noticed she was injured. Her off fore leg was broken at the knee and the vet had to put her down, said director of the Blue Hors Stud Esben Moller.

Andreas and Matine's kur at Aachen has been watched almost 10 million times on YouTube. Watch Blue Hors Matine's 2006 WEG performance here
